The Trust Fund for St. John was established approximately 15 years ago with the intent of providing our church with “extra” funding above and beyond what the regular budget would allow. It was also designed to protect funds given to St. John so that they would be spent for the purpose given instead of going to operating expenses.
The Trust Fund is divided into 2 distinct parts. The Memorial Fund can spend 100% of a gift for the purpose designated. The Perpetual Fund can only spend the “interest” that the gift earns. Principal can never be touched. If a gift is “undesignated” the committee can spend it on any request which comes before us. A “designated” gift can only be spent for the purpose it was designated.
Since inception we have been fortunate to be included in a few estates and your committee has managed the funds well. Unfortunately, there have been very few bequests since the early years. We need to ask for your support to keep our primary mission within reach. The Trust Fund needs to be remembered in our member’s wills; we need to be the recipients of occasional funding. Gift to the trust fund are welcome at any time, whether they be for specific memorials or for a specific purpose, like the scholarship program. We can’t continue to provide the “extras” as the church grows if we only maintain the fund. As St John grows so must your Trust Fund.
